Eric "E-Baby" Smith started his love for writing poetry as a child. It was a skill that stayed deep inside of him, coming out periodically, but never permanently. In July of 2000, he heard poetry from his radio; Justine Love & Todd B. [WPGC 95.5] were hosting their Thursday night Love Talk & Poetry Cafe'. Once again, E’s words began to decorate the paper, and the minds of those who’ve read or heard them. While reading his poetry and impressing the WPGC staff, they selected him to open for R&B artist Me’shell N’degeOcello (7/14/02); Musiq Soul Child & Jaguar Wright (8/18/02); Heather Headley (3/6/03); and Kevon Edmunds (9/20/03) when their tours stopped in Maryland and Washington, DC.
After releasing his gift of writing poetry to microphones in the Washington DC area, E-baby has become the 2001 BlackWordsOnLine.com/Howard University Grand Slam Champion in Washington, DC; the 2002 Poetology 3rd Place Winner in Baltimore, MD; a 2003 Nuyorican Semi-Finalist in New York, NY; the 2nd Place winner at the 2005 Capital Jazz Festival in Columbia, MD; and the Vicious Thursday’s Weekly Poetry Competition Winner (Aug. 8, 15, 22, & Sept. 5, 2002). In November 2004, E-Baby released his freshman CD, "My Thoughts Are In This Ink". His sophomore CD, "Inktoxicated", is due spring 2008.

In October 2002, he met his agent Wiggs [Jus Wiggin Entertainment] which launched his 2003-04 "1-Poet Poetical Tour" (first show - Virginia Commonwealth University). This tour touched colleges and universities in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Tennessee, New York, Maryland, and his home state of Virginia. His 2004-05 tour reached campuses in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado, Arkansas. His 2005-06 tour was full of encore performances from schools that featured him early in his poetical career. Currently, his 2006-07 tour is blanketing the Pennsylvania State University campuses (Harrisburg, York, New Kinsington, etc); along with other colleges and universities in the state. Now, in 2008, "E" has taken his poetry to the midwestern states of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. His new adventure - becoming a group/duet with Washington, DC poet "DJ Toa" (look for big things from these two). He still recites at open-mic spots in Maryland and Virginia; but his poetical home of Washington, DC is where you can find him. E-Baby’s future in poetry, quote: "This has been with me since I formed my first ABC’s; poetry is me - the beginning, the now, the end."
